Welcome back to school everyone!!!
I hope that your 1st week went well. Some of you may have had the best 1st week ever, and some of you may have had a few bumps in the road.
Today’s post is meant to be a reminder to think about why we are here and why we do what we do. Being in two different schools, I am fortunate enough to get to know many staff members. Although NOT widespread, one common theme I saw last week between schools was that stress levels were high for some teachers and staff members.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
Think about your students….. doesn’t matter if they are from low or high economic status homes….. doesn’t matter if they are honors / TAG students or at-risk / special education students. You want them all to succeed, right? You want them to be able to go out into the world and feel like they’ve had mentors that have supported them along the way, right?
Now, think about their parents….. All of them, no matter how much they yell or complain….all they really want is the best for their children, right? If you are a parent, then you know how they feel when you see that your own child is upset or struggles with something! If you’re not a parent, try to put yourself in their shoes.
Now, think about your colleagues…. all of them… doesn’t matter what their job is…. we are all just alike when we return to school at the end of each summer. Work loads and responsibilities may differ, but we have the same excited feeling of being able to see and help more students each year, right?
So, take a deep breath, remember why you entered the world of education to begin with, and have a wonderful 2nd week of school!!!
